Dear Members,

The Prescription Charging Coalition, of which we are a member, is going to be launching a major new survey report on the impact of charging for prescriptions in England in the near future. We are hoping that you might be interested in sharing your experiences and, in particular, we are looking for anyone who has been adversely affected by having to pay for prescriptions and would be willing to share their story with the media.

If this is something that you might be interested in getting more involved in, then please contact our Press Officer, Andrew Scott, via email at andrew@nras.org.uk or by calling him on 0845 458 3969, and he will be happy to talk you through any questions that you might have. This is a really important issue and so we really hope you might be willing to help us!

Thank you!

Emma

I pay for mine via a pre-payment certificate. I'd already started it pre-RA, for just my blood pressure and anti-depressants -at that time I thought it was very expensive, although fractionally cheaper than paying for each prescription separately. But now I've added in loads more meds, for no extra cost so it seems pretty good value.

I don't mind paying something towards my health care - especially now that I am getting such a lot back from the NHS. I often marvel at how we in Britain can support a health service that is free to all at the point of delivery - we may complain at the perceived failings and inefficiencies, but it is largely free to all. What other countries offer that?

I think the NHS is amazing sylvia. I have friends in America with RA who can't afford treatment as they don't have indurance due to being too ill to work. They really are in very miserable, and arguably inhumane, situations. I'd hate to see that over here. as for prescription charges, I have a prepayment card like you. One thing I really don't understand is that some conditions entitle people to free prescriptions whilst others which are just as bad or seemingly worse (like RA) do not. I'm mystified as to how these decisions are made. Confused
